Two skiers traversed lower on the slope to a small subridge and an island of trees. After standing in the trees for a minute or two, the first, looker’s right, higher chunk of snow was remotely triggered from below. This then propagated across the slope, sympathetically triggering the rest of the slope to looker’s left. The skiers were able to easily traverse out of the way of any debris, and no one was caught or carried. The avalanche was well connected, approximately 500–550 feet wide. Crown depth ranged from 10–18 inches, varying between stripped and wind-loaded terrain. The avalanche appeared to fail on a mid-storm interface from Thursday, 4/2 (a thunder snow layer) made up of graupel, DF, and stellars.
Approximately four other similar avalanches, both within and outside of the wind zone, were observed in most avalanche terrain within the Rocky Point zone.
