The snow was dry on that North and northeast-facing aspect. It seemed as though there was a lot of wind loading. A lot of it looks to be more of a cross-loading just from looking at the pillows on the slope. The south-facing slopes that I use to get into the area were very wet and softer than I expected.

I would not have been on that slope today, but I knew a few days ago that some mitigation work had been done to make the area safe for the recovery efforts in that area. I didn't expect conditions to change that much from when the mitigation work was done till today. I was caught off guard a little bit when the hillside let loose. Earlier, I descended the slope right next to one of the bomb holes and it didn't release when I descended. It was on my way out during my climb up that the slope released but it happened behind me.
